- Per Mary Jane PIPES Frank, Feb 2005: John and Katie were married at 3928 Ave L, Galveston, Texas. Obit from Galveston Daily News-March 26, 1992, John Kantowski Jr. Algoa-John Kantowski, Jr. passed away Monday at Methodist hospital in Houston. Services will be at 10:30a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Arcadia, the Rev. Paul Comer officiating. Burial will follow in Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home in Santa Fe. Mr. Kantowski was born in Galveston and had been a resident of Algoa for seven years. He was a former island resident. He was a prominent grocery retailer in Galveston for 52 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arcadia, where he served as Deacon and as director of Adult III department. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Katie Kantowski of Algoa; son, John C. Kantowski of Algoa; three daughters, Dorothy Ann Weir and Linda J. Nelson, both of Algoa, and Margaret Lynette York of Burke, Va.; three sisters, Mary Lou Garcia and Elsie Brannan, both of Galveston and Margie Lera of Medina; eight grandsons, Bubba Weir, John William Kantowski, Murrel Lamar Nelson, Marshall Dale Weir, Randall Scott Kantowski, and Cornell Lane Weir, all of Algoa, Robert Wayne Weir of Houston, and Emmett Lee York of Burke; three granddaughters, Sherry Lynn Weir and Sabrina Joy Nelson, both of Algoa, and Jennifer Lynn York of Burke. Pallbearers will be Warren Waters, Henry Travis, Enos Morgan, Raymond Matejka, Burt Black and J.D. Weir. Honorary pallbearers will be Don T. York, Dr. Dan Smith, Dr. William Wilson, Dr. Stewart Soloman, and Bro. Jack Frisbee. Memorials in the form of donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday.
