- Per e-mail to Annie Mae CLARK Tucker, 21 Apr 2004, from Delores Rochelle Walls: Joel Clapp was in Limestone County, Texas, in 1850. He did have land records in Trinity County, Texas. Per James Clint Yarbrough, 11 July 2005, on Cookie's Corner: The following may be the parents of Martha Lavonia CLAPP Hawthorn Konklin Clark. 1850 Limestone County Texas http://mikajackson.tripod.com/lmdex.html page 263 Dwelling & Family No. 109 32. Joel Clapp, 49, M, Farmer, $4,000, North Carolina 33. Malinda Clapp, 49, F, Georgia 34. Martha L. Clapp, 22, F, Alabama 35. Francis M. Clapp, 14, M, Tennessee 36. Caladona Clapp, 13, F, Texas 37. Texana Clapp, 10, F, Texas Therre are many Clapps in Limestone County which is not far from Houston County now or closer in the 1850s because of the size of it. Per James Yarbrough: 12 Jul 2005, on Cookie's Corner: Per Jill Bratcher, originally posted on the CLAPP message board: Joel married Malinda Williamson in Madison County, , Alabama, on 6 November 1821. They had a daughter, Martha (Jane) Lavonia Clapp there in about 1827-1828. (She was 22 on the 1850 census.) They must have moved to Tennessee next, because the 1850 Census indicates son Francis M. Clapp was born there in about 1836 (age 14 in 1850). By about 1837 they were in Texas because daughters Caladona and Texana were born in Texas in about 1837 and 1840 respectively, according to the census 12 October, 1850, in Precinct 3, Limestone County, Texas. I have two other sons for the couple but no documentation yet (info here "from others"): The first is Lewis R. Clapp, b. 14 March 1830. He was not in the household in 1850, and I have two marriages listed for him: Rebecca (maiden name unknown) and Lavinia Johnston. The latter he married 30 Jan 1862 in Walker County, TX, where I have him dying in 1877. Lewis is buried in Clapp Cemetery. The second is John Eldredge Clapp, born 21 Sept. 1825. He married Amanda (MNU). He also wasn't in the household on the 1850 census. I descend from Joel & Malinda's daughter, Martha, who married first (I'm told) John Hawthorne (no info) and second Thomas Jefferson Clark in about 1865. He was born about 1825 in Alabama and died before 1880 (because Martha's on the census as a widow). He may have been married to a Hester Ann (MNU) previously and had a son Thomas by her. His father was J.D. Clark (no further info). Thomas J. Clark and Martha appeared on the 1870 census in Limestone County, TX, too, but I haven't found them on 1860 yet. I'm told of 3 children: John Davis Clark, b 10 April 1859, Sally Clark (no info) and my great grandfather William Monroe Clark. William Monroe Clark was born 22 October 1867 in Tarkington Prairie, Liberty County, Texas. He died 29 June 1958 in Hobbs, Eddy County, New Mexico. He married Willie Mae Allbright 3 November 1895 in Houston County, Texas. Both are buried in Slaton, Lubbock County, , TX, I'm told. Of their 10 children, #2 was my grandfather, William Franklin Clark, b. 7 July 1899 in Crockett, Houston County, , TX. He married Eula Clara Jones 20 July 1922. (He married 2 or 3 other times, but I descend from Eula.) Frank died 7 April 1971 in Kern County, , California, while visiting his eldest daughter. Their daughter Dorothy Lee Clark was my mother.
